Auto detailing shop diversifies by teaching trade
Nick Vacco, owner of Detail King LP, started a for-profit school to prepare people for the industry and to generate new revenue.
In the late 1990s, after a dozen years in the auto detailing industry, Nick Vacco felt as if he had hit a wall.
“I felt that I had maxed out what I could do with my retail business,” Vacco said.
A quick search of detailing businesses in the Pittsburgh area returned dozens of potential competitors, which, for the most part, offered exactly the same kind of services as Vacco — cleaning, polishing and waxing of vehicles as well as minor paint repairs and surface restoration.
