  Polish vs sealant, and where Blue Diamond fits

  “Polish” and sealant” are two different things, and shoppers ask which one they need. A polish corrects: it is a fine abrasive that removes minor imperfections in the clearcoat (light scratches, water spots, marring, buffer swirls) and is less aggressive than a compound. A sealant protects: it leaves a layer on top of clean paint and does not remove anything. You normally need both, in that order.

  Blue Diamond does both in a single application, so for most maintenance work it replaces the two-step routine. Reach for the alternatives when the job is heavier at either end:

  • Diamond Cut Deluxe: step up to this when the paint has moderate to heavy defects that a fine polish will not cut. It is a cutting compound that you would follow up with a polish (like Blue Diamond).
  • STS 3000 Polymer Paint Sealant: layer this over Blue Diamond when you want longer-lasting protection. Blue Diamond alone protects for four to six months; applying STS 3000 on top extends protection up to a year.
  • Koch-Chemie Protector Wax: a maintenance protection wax you apply after a wash cycle when you want to refresh gloss and beading between full polishing sessions.

  Blue Diamond is the one-step polish-and-seal you reach for on routine paint; Diamond Cut Deluxe is the step-up for heavy correction, and STS 3000 is the top-up that extends protection to a year. Many shops carry Blue Diamond plus STS 3000 and choose by how long the customer wants the protection to last.

• Tips for Use
  1. On fresh paint, patience pays. Blue Diamond is safe over a new coat, but paint cures from the inside out, so waiting 30 to 60 days after respray gets you the best result.
  2. Hand or machine both work; machine wins on defects. A hand application is effective, but a polisher like our Rupes LHR 15 Mark V, removes imperfections a hand pass leaves behind. Pair it with any of our orbital buffer pads.
  3. Finish with a wipe-down. A Rag Company Creature Towel takes off the residue and leaves the paint clear enough to check your reflection in it.
